Downy Woodpecker on Pine Trunk

Downy Woodpeckers are among the most widespread and familiar woodpeckers in North America. They inhabit forests, woodlots, parks, and suburban backyards, where they forage for insects hidden beneath tree bark and readily visit bird feeders. This watercolor depicts a male Downy Woodpecker perched on a weathered pine trunk, showcasing the species' distinctive black-and-white markings and bright red nape patch against a backdrop of evergreen foliage.
